Heavenly Meteora!

Derived from the word 'meteor' comes the phrase 'suspended in the sky', and there is no better way to describe the gorgeous area in the North of Greece known as Meteora than that.

Twenty four Greek Orthodox Monasteries once were carved into the tops of the rock columns by monks, however now only six are left standing since they were originally built in the 11th century. It was a little foggy the day we went up, which in all honesty just added to the beautiful surroundings. These monasteries are just stunning, but the real treat (my personal favourite) are the old chapels that reside within the doors of the monasteries. The attention to detail is breathtaking. While I couldn't take too many photo's, especially not in the chapels, I did manage to get a few - pretty cool huh?!
